If you're only doing the world gen I'd definitely do the most recent.
The only reason I'd use an old version would be v1.1 since that's fully moddable, anything in between is obsolete.

I know how to mod the map.json :asd: I found something really cool it's called "Iron Chain" when broken, it drops the iron chain... I'd love to have the (item) iron chain placeable into the block form...

Yeah, I saw that when I was doing textures. Looks like it could be used to extend lanterns and ceiling torches down from a high ceiling.

I just dug to bedrock in less than a minute, in a brand new, perfectly normal, world. :P

2 things that are permanently coded into the game and annoy me are,

1: I can't change snow or graveyard biomes, or make any other biome come within 20 blocks of the surface.
This seems to be different in the most recent version of the game though.

2: I can't make swords effective against blocks, or make tools effective against mobs.
If I could I'd only need one type of tool to one hit kill/break anything.

No I didn't. I don't see much reason to, since I've given all mithril tools about the same effect (20 range, 30 power).

Well, I can pretty much change any existing mob.
There isn't any room left in the mobs.png to actually add additional mobs though, and I still haven't figured out how it determines a mob's location in the png.

The only thing I can't completely control is what a mob shoots. I can only choose between pre-existing "ammo".
