256x256=65536, so there will be an extra 1 on the left this time.
Look at that number. Look familiar? The max item in the game is 65535; I guess 1 more "would" make the game crash.
FFFF would be 16x16, 16x16=256x256, essentially.

74697 / 16 = 4668.5625

.5625 * 16 = 9

4668/16=291.75

.75*16=12=C

291/16=18.1875

.1875*16=3

18/16=1.125

.125*16=2

I'm not entirely sure what you're doing… the 2 and the 3 should be two separate values.

9 + 192 + 768 + 8,192 + 65,536 = 74,697

C9 (12-9), for the 4^2

But how would you separate them? (yes, that was the part that was giving me trouble).

Each hex character has it's own value, you don't group them in twos when you convert them.
For each place you move over multiply by 16 again.

1 = 1
1* = 1 x 16
1** = 1 x 16 x 16 =256
1*** = 1 x 16 x 16 x 16 = 4,096
1**** = 1 x 16 x 16 x 16 x 16 = 65,536


So in the hex value given given. (highlighting each character as I use it)
123C9 = 9
123C9 = 12 x 16 = 192
123C9 = 3 x 16² = 768
123C9 = 2 x 16³ = 8,192
123C9 = 1 x 16⁴ = 65,536

9 + 192 + 768 + 8,192 + 65,536 = 74,697

Wow. That was so straight forward. Thanks!!
I'm good at converting DEC to HEX, just not the other way around.
How do you know how to do this? Have you looked at the charinfo.dat?

No, well yes, but not really…
Pbro was teaching someone hex on the JJW chat and I caught on fast… :P

I've never tried actually hex editing, I'm just fairly good at converting the numbers.

Back on topic...you dont have to be jailbroken to do this. The original hack is done by hex editing the charinfo.dat file. Or if you have linux or a mac, you can modify my script and just run the bottom portion in terminal/console.
