Crosshair tutorial.

PostWed May 02, 2012 12:06 am

This is a tutorial on how to mod the original crosshair.
You can find the files here on the right.

First you'll need a program for editing, I recommend paint.net.
Once you've downloaded and installed your program, start it.
Click open (top left corner), and choose the crosshair.png.
The crosshair should look like this.

Each Jack you see represents a frame.
Most of these will only be seen for a split second at a time.
The top three are for him standing still. The farthest right of the three is the one you'll be looking at most.
The next row is for him running.
The third row is him jumping/dashing. I've yet to find out which of these frames is for him falling. (XsX?)
The fourth row is Jack hitting/digging/placing blocks.
The fifth row is him climbing ladders/vines. I'm pretty sure that the first frame is used when he's not moving.
The sixth and final row is for when he's hitting/digging/placing while on a ladder.

Editing:
To start off, try doing small changes, and gradually work you're way up to doing a completely different crosshair.
For the purpose of this tutorial, I'll explain how to change his helmet.
Step 1:
First, in the colours box, choose the main colour you want, here we'll choose gray (1), and select the pencil tool (2).

Step 2:
Draw over the entire helmet of the third jack on the first row.

Step 3:
Then select black, and draw around the edge of the helmet.
You can also do some highlights with light gray.

Step 4:
Once you've done all you want to the helmet, choose the rectangle select tool (1), and select the entire helmet.

Step 5:
Copy (control+c) the selection, then paste (control+v) it, and move it on top of another frame.

Repeat step 5 until all the helmets except for those on the fifth row are done.
For the fifth row, you'll want to do step 1-5, but only for that row.

Hopfully this helps.

Nice job Wack3.
To copy and paste quickly just press control+c (copy) and control+v (paste).
