Pixel Dimension of mobs?

PostMon Dec 10, 2012 5:09 am

Hello, I am new to the forum but not to Junk Jack.

I saw the post that replaces slimes with a toaster (for 4SlotToaster) and i though it was cool, so i wanted to make my own mob but i need to know the pixel dimensions of a single mob animation or do they vary?

Thanks in advance

Pixel Dimension of mobs?

Welcome to the forums! :)
I believe the dimensions do indeed vary based on the different types of mobs. :sisi:

Alright, let me rephrase this.
Each item, mob, character animation and block have an allocated amount of pixels for the texture to read, such as in minecraft each block gets a 16x16 pixel allocation, does anyone know what the amount for Junk Jack is? Or atleast just the amount for the crosshair.

We realize what you mean.

Treasures are on a 16x16 grid.
Blocks are 32x32
Crosshair is on a 32x32 grid.

Mobs vary a lot. Seriously, they aren't lined up on the .png in strait lines or anything.

You can download the original textures there. That includes the main modable ones.

But Twelve, we both know that blocks are 30x30 pixels, just with the borders extended by one.
How are we supposed to explain that, though.
You are correct when you said the blocks are 32x32, but what if this guy creates a texture that is 32x32 instead of 30x30? I don't want him creating a texture pack that will end up not working, you know?

I don't understand why everyone says they're 30x30, they're not.
They are 32x32, the outer pixels are darker than the rest, but they are still 32x32.
If you don't count the dark border they would be 28x28.

If you created your own rocks.png image it would fill a 32x32 grid.
The rocks.png is 1024x1024 total pixels and 32x32 blocks. That makes each block 32x32.

Do you think I typed 32x32 in this enough? No? 32x32 32x32 32x32…

Sorry… I'm tired...

*urgh* This is hard to explain. I think.
Ok. The height of an iPod is 640 pixels (fact). A block pixel in-game fills up a 4x4 pixel block on the screen (fact).
So, if you were to divide 640 by 4 you would get 160.
So, let's say you're right about the blocks being 32x32. In that case, 160/32=5. Which is saying that exactly 5 blocks are shown when playing the game.
However, that is not the case.
Reason 1: You actually see 5.3333 blocks.
Reason 2: therefore the blocks are actually 30x30 pixels. Of which they are.
THE GRIDS IN THE .PNG FILE ARE 32x32, that is a true statement.
But look at the "darker outlines." They are 2 PIXELS WIDE. The game omits those outer pixels, showing just one of the dark outlined pixels, and only displays the inner 30x30.
I will gladly explain with pictures through email tomorrow when I wake up if need be :)

(wait what? I'm right?) jk.
It's cool. I know what it feels like to be so sure of something only to have the eyes opened up to what really is there.
And no need to ask XsX, I've spent hours figuring out mathematical dimensions of all sorts of stuff in Junk Jack. So, yeah, I knew I was right.
Btw Twelve, I actually did figure out how to perfectly emulate the Lighting Engine in Photoshop :D. If you want I can email you the files tomorrow morning.

Yeah?
I'll also send Twleve some pics of the house I created in Photoshop that I'm gonna use in Tye-Dye's House Competition.
And, TF, if you're willing, I may ask you to create a Topic for me about the pics and the Lighting Engine emulation technique (I'd write the words in the email. You'd just copy/paste. And then change the Topic creator to me. Because, you know, we're Mods and we can do that :D).
