In the new update, all blocks act like cloth when you fall on them...

You guys mean the fact that you can drop down what, 4 blocks without being hurt, or is it 3? Either way, I think this is on purpose because people were complaining that falling down and getting hurt, on a small drop is/ was annoying. They extended the fall distance before taking damage, that's all.
