Electronics: pistons - functional uses?

PostThu Nov 24, 2016 5:05 am

Being a Minecraft player, I figured pistons could push blocks, but doesn't seem to be the case. Has anyone put them to good use yet?
Care to share some practical examples?

Created an elevator. So far.
You can use pistons to push mobs objects or can be used as a one way door.

Hmm not sure how that elevator works, I'll build it and see!
What is triggering the piston in the mob pusher?

For the elevator if you flip a switch it pushes your character up to the second floor. If you want down, flip the other switch.
The problem though is the retractable block doesn't act like a bridge or solid block when walking on it. So you end up falling down one block or auto jump the gap when walking on it.

The picture above with the piston on it's side is an example of a one way door basically. You can walk through the platform one way but the other way you can't. Could be useful for story maps or something.

The piston is being powered by the analog block. I'm just using it to keep the piston active, so it can be used as a one way door.

Well, you're the one who posted the "the update is out, here's the changelog" thread. I assumed you'd read it.

I got an email and instantly posted what pixbits wrote. I skimmed through it of course, but didn't really stop over any particular part.

I've got two working models of elevator. They take 1.45 seconds to go up 9 blocks.

The right one:
Pro: Simple, smaller.
Con: Slower going down (since the delays are past the top switch you have to hit the switch 1.45 seconds before you start to drop)
This could be mitigated easily by hitting the switch when you get to the top, so the shaft would already be open when you were ready to go down.

The left one:
Pro: Faster down (you drop as soon as you hit the switch)
Con: It's big.

While writing this I've thought through an improved version. "Soon"

The deed is done!

This one just sends one pulse up when you hit the switch (think a crowd doing the wave), so it's always open when needed. You just have to drop through the bridge at the top to go down.
