Fishing "Depth"

I know somewhere in the patch notes it said you can catch different fish at different depths. I always wondered but never bothered to ask, does that mean you'll catch a different fish in 2 blocks water deep than 4 blocks water deep? Or that you'll catch different fish depending on what height you're at in the world.

I should really start a list of all the questions nobody seems to know the answer to.

Different depths in the world, not depth of the water.
