Your Way of Mining

Do you find strip mining or just mining out a stairwell more efficient?

Stairwell for me. I just feel like the chance of encountering stuff is much higher, though my dig goes quite straight once i reach near-bedrock.

I put a bucket of water at the top, then go straight down. Then vary the distance between these depending on what I'm looking for.

umm *first post

Just played JJ for 10 hours (and got the achievement!) and I realized, I created my home in an adventure mode, but mine in a standalone world. That means I won't find any portal at all. That means I've been mining in the wrong world mode? Does the resource significantly different from one world to another?

Resources are the same in both, you just won't find any portal pieces, which means you won't get to higher planets, which means you can't get better materials. So yeah, start mining in adventure mode, portal pieces give off a small amount of bluish light, so they're pretty easy to find in the mega-map.

Your Way of Mining

I originally start digging a horizontal tunnel around the entire world, just below the surface. Makes it easy to travel, safer/faster than the surface.
I started out digging diagonally which makes it much easier to travel, no need for ladders or bridges.
I recently tried strip mining directly down, but if for any reason your ladders get blown up or destroyed by lava, it can leave you in a difficult situation, especially on harder mode when you drop your stuff on death.
I also tried the water method, can be troublesome too. Diagonal still seems like the easiest and safest method.
