Altars and totems

If anyone has any idea what altars and totems look like, please tell me.
Few questions to add for both items:
1: Do they emit a faint light
2: How rare are they exactly
3: What is the ideal depth to start finding them

An altar can be seen in the uber mob ad, the yellow skull orb in the center.(picture below)

1.Altars emit light, about the same as a portal.
2. Pretty rare. I suggest making a small world to find them a little more quicker.
3. They' re random but I say mid way in a small world is a good place to start.


Also make sure your prepared to fight. The world picture on the very bottom is a small portion of the after math of the Terra uber mob. They destroy blocks. So carry some blocks with you and life providing potions or foods. Maybe some defense potions.

Im already trying to edit the wiki, though i refuse to go to the next worlds until i find a totem in a terra world, which i hvent found yet after strip mining one and a half around the world starting from the bottom, though i didnt really make any effort exploring caves becausei expected totems to glow.

If anyone here has found a totem, please be a saint and describe what they are. Thanks!

I FOUND A FREAKING TOTEM!
Looks like theyre really rare, or i was just unlucky. Either way, i found one. It doesnt glow which makes it hard to find

I got super lucky and found a Terra totem on the first post-patch world I made, in a cave near the surface. Just found my second totem, very close to the bottom of Magmar.

Shoot, those things are rare? I trashed my Tor totem.

Just found another one, same Magmar instance. Can confirm there is no light at all, no glow. This was completely black before I found it, and was quite a surprise when I plopped down a torch.

Based on the three that I've found so far (which is not a large sample size!), these can occur at any depth,do not give off any indication that they are present until you actually illuminate them, and can occur more than once in a world.
