I don't think there will be enough room for a d-pad. Plus, I prefer the touch screen controls as they are now, because they work. :)

Heh. I haven't played it since last school holidays.. A term is 11 weeks, and I have 2 weeks till holidays (though 3 till I get Wi-Fi) so I haven't played it for about as long as you have... When I play again, I'm getting a private world, I'll invite you to it if you want?

+1 for D-Pad ( and support for hardware joystick ) Option
If you don't like it, use the existing, but I find swipe controls imprecise, here and in all apps.

I've also noticed the hitbox seems a bit too small on the buttons? especially on the iPhone

I'm a veteran of the somewhat similar Scribblenauts, and when they added pad control in the sequel,
things really improved. When you can get hurt by falling, it's important not to walk carelessly

I accidentally walk more with a d-pad than with JJ's swipe controls.
It's annoying trying to place/mine near the dpads. I suppose that's sort of fixed if you also have a mining d-pad. But placing with a dpad just doesn't work, in my opinion.

Dpad just looks plain ugly and its unreliable.

All I suggest is that there be an OPTIONAL d-pad, that works simultaneously, not replacing the existing tap controls.
Turn it off, and it's gone from the screen, out of the way.

( With Super Scribblenauts DS, you could use the Dpad and stylus at once in this way - really efficient. )

Yes, it's better to place with a tap, or stylus ( even though I've noticed that "placing" seems to have intermittent control also - sometimes it just doesn't work? Also eating food, and reading pages. Might as well just "auto read" any page found, saving clicks and inventory shuffling. )

Also, a "don't pick up" toggle would be convenient, to avoid gathering un-needed... junk? ; - )

And there's your problem. This is not a DS game. Whoever first put D-pads on iDevices made a big mistake, they clutter your screen and they don't work half the time.

Again I state, Pixbits would have to redesign the whole game if they added D-Pads.

Dpads suck. Invisible dpads are for FPS games. Then minecraft.

What if instead of a D-pad keep it as if but make it possible to swipe diagonally upward when coming up to a hole or jumpable situation. and to move and swing would make mob fights more intense, instead of standing out of range or swing, move, stop and swing again. :teach:

i like the controls we have now because you can control yourself from anywhere on the screen unlike other games where u have this little small joystick at the bottom and if your finger slips off it u die

It really depends on the game and what you are playing it on. D-pad really isn't suitable for touch screen, though I'm sure there are exceptions.

What you're referring to is called multitouch. That I approve.

Yes. 12', I think moving while being able to you should be able to swing or open doors, with the ability to swipe diagonaly upward while running to run jump and keep running would make the gameplay all the more eye drawing.
