The JJX Safety Rules (or how not to lose your stuff)

Since there have been enough reports of people losing stuff, either from griefers in multiplayer or, rarely, from a bug where data files become locked and inaccessible to JJX, I decided to write out the "safety rules" for Junk Jack X:

1A. Back up your worlds and player data regularly. This does require the use of a computer but does not require that you manage your i-Device with a computer. You will, for restoring at least, need the computer program iFunBox available here: http://www.i-funbox.com/

[Note: I am assuming the use of a Windows or Mac computer. I have no idea what you'd do under Linux, but if you're a *nix user, you're probably tech saavy enough to figure out the equivalent methods and programs needed ;)]

Method A:
- If you do use iTunes, when you have your i-Device connected to iTunes, go to the device's "tab", select "Apps", scroll down a little and you'll see a File Sharing section on the page.
- Select Junk Jack X in the Apps portion of that on the left side. You will then see 2 folders displayed on the Documents portion of that on the right, "players" and "worlds".
- Shift select both of those folders and click on the "Save to..." button underneath. Browse to where you want to keep your backed up data and create a New Folder and name it something useful, e.g. "2013.09.04 - JJX backup", select that folder with a single click then hit the "Select Folder" button. iTunes will copy the "players" and "worlds" folders into the selected folder on your computer.

Method B:
- If you don't use iTunes or want to use the program you'll need to restore progress anyhow, launch iFunBox with your device connected to your computer.
- Choose the "Managing App Data" tab, there you will see a section labeled "iTunes File Sharing", select Junk Jack X from the apps shown.
- You will get a new window showing the "players" and "worlds" folders on the right, shift select both and press the "Copy To PC" button at the top.
- Browse to where you want to keep your backed up data and create a New Folder and name it something useful, e.g. "2013.09.04 - JJX backup", open that folder and press the "Save" button. iFunBox will copy the "players" and "worlds" folders into the designated folder on your computer.

1B. In case of the worst case scenario and you need to restore from your back up:
- Make sure JJX is fully killed from the taskbar on your device if necessary.
- Launch iFunBox and connect your iDevice to the computer with your backup.
- Select the "iFunBox Classic" tab, there you will see a section labeled "App File Sharing" in the file tree on the left, expand if necessary and select Junk Jack X from the apps shown. On the right, you will see the "players" and "worlds" folders.
- In your computer's explorer, browse to where the backed up "players" and "worlds" folders are, you can drag and drop them right into the right panel of iFunBox's "AppFileSharing" and they will be copied onto your device.
- That's it, disconnect from iFunBox and launch JJX, you should see the restored player and worlds.

-----

2. Do not host multiplayer games on any world that wasn't recently backed up or is otherwise disposable. The file locking bug seems to happen most often during poor multiplayer connections. And while preventing total data loss is a good reason to back up, probably the main reason to follow this rule is that there are, unfortunately, people out there who's idea of fun is ruining your fun and they will seek to destroy your creations and/or kill you (causing you to lose your inventory with them likely stealing it).

-----

3. Do not take part in multiplayer games with untrusted individuals with anything in your inventory that is not easily replaced. There are griefers out there hosting games with the express purpose to kill the joining player and take their stuff (and some joining for similar reasons). Relatedly, if playing in a multiplayer game with an untrusted individual and you find something rare, place it in a quickslot instead of your main inventory so you won't drop it on death.

-----

4. Save often, JJX only writes to the data files when you pause the game, so pause it every so often, particularly right after you find something good.

-----

5. For now, do not enable the "Keep Last Slot Empty" option and "Simple Crafting" at the same time. If you have both those options and your inventory is full, the game will crash when you go to craft something. This is a known bug that is fixed in the upcoming update, but is a potential source of data loss until then.

Mods have always been able to sticky, it just wasn't obvious and it took the other mods a while to figure it out.

I'd known for a year or more. I just never felt the need to make so many stickies (and there wasn't as much need)...
