Renaming Worlds = Crash + Defective File (v2.2.4)

PostSat Nov 08, 2014 4:25 am

As a result of the Junk Jack X update on 11/7/14, renaming "Adventure" worlds became an issue. By default, worlds are titled "Adventure#" when created.

If a user renames a world and presses "Play," the application would crash and exit to the Home Screen. When the user returns to the application, a window will pop up stating, "It seems like game crashed while loading your last world. Would you try to recover it?" The user would be given the options "Yes" or "No." If the user chooses "Yes," the window will state "WARNING: recovering a world will restore it to a previous state. Are you REALLY sure?" If the user chooses "Yes" again, the window will state that "Something went wrong while recovering." If the user attempts to "Continue" or select and play the defective world from the "Worlds" menu afterwards, the window will pop up stating that "A world file inside the adventure folder is missing. Did you try to move files manually?" The user is now unable to access the world. This issue can be temporarily fixed by renaming the world to the name it started with. This will allow access to the world.

Notes:
-"Terra" worlds are not affected by renaming them. Only "Adventure" worlds qualify in this bug.
-Renaming a world does not corrupt the data. It only renders it useless until returned to its original name.
-Backing up or inserting worlds manually do not affect the application or its data in any way, if unedited and under v2.2.4.

I've found this as well.
I found a solution to it though- you rename it to whatever but instead of pressing done press above the keyboard. Then go into any standalone world an rxit it, you should enable to play your world. Or alternatively if you are jailbroken you can rename the file (eg. From world.dat to shrekd.dat)

We investigated, found and fixed the issue! Thanks for reporting, indeed this is not a corruption issue.

Just a move operation which fails (the folder that contains the adventure worlds doesn't get renamed correctly). That's why the game thinks that the worlds are not there anymore.

I have named every one of my games. Should I avoid the update until this issue is fixed? Or does it only effect worlds if you change the name after the update?

Only worlds renamed after the update.
1. Junk-Jack-Wiki
2. The world is big, 256 blocks high and 768 across.
3. Who is John Galt?
4. Lack of objection does not indicate consent.
5. We scream, we shout, we wail, we cry; but in the end we all must die.

Issue should be fixed with 2.2.5 (which has been released on appstore ~14 hrs ago)

Thanks 12Foot. I finally broke down and installed the update. No problem so far, but I've not started a new game or renamed anything.
