New Biomes + Biome Transitions

PostSat Dec 22, 2012 2:26 am

Hi everyone! :)

Well, today I'd like to talk about biomes! So interesting, right? Well, I'd like for it to be that way and maybe have a bit more variance. Let's see...

Biomes

Temperate Forest: found near normal biomes.
Characteristics: what we have now but with uncommon birch trees!
Plains: found near normal (grassy) biomes.
Characteristics: Flatter that temperate forest. Tall grass is very common (and maybe a taller grass that we have now?), and you can easily find small rocks and flowers, and the occasional bush. No trees, and bamboo and papyrus are very rare.
Thick Forest: found near normal (grassy) biomes.
Characteristics: 90% normal trees. Uncommon birch trees. Very little bamboo, papyrus, tall grass, flowers, or small rocks.
Temperate Highlands: found near normal biomes.
Characteristics: Very hilly. Lots of grass, flowers and bushes. Uncommon small rocks and trees (normal and birch) will spawn. No bamboo or papyrus.

Taiga: found near snowy biomes.
Characteristics: what we have now.
Snow Plains: found near snowy biomes.
Characteristics: Flatter that taiga. Occasional snowy bushes. No trees.
Thick Taiga: found near snowy biomes.
Characteristics: Like taiga but with more trees.
Snowy Wasteland: found near snowy biomes.
Characteristics: Flat like snowy plains, but the ground cover is at least a 3 layer thick snow. Ice is common. No snowy bushes.
Snowy Highlands: found near snowy biomes.
Characteristics: Like the temperate highlands, but snowy. Common bushes and uncommon trees.

Desert: found near desert biomes.
Characteristics: What we have now, but only in large size. No palm trees here.
Desert Oasis: found near desert biomes.
Characteristics: a small mass of sand connected to a larger desert. Palm trees and cacti are common here. Common near desert edges, but can be inside a desert.
Desert Valley: found near normal biomes.
Characteristics: A valley a temperate biome (any) with a small desert at the bottom. Palm trees and cacti are common.
Desert Highlands: found near desert biomes.
Characteristics: Hilly desert. Cacti can spawn, no palm trees.

Rainforest: found near temperate biomes
Characteristics: medium-dark dirt. Rainforest trees (like underground jungle trees but with normal tree leaves) are very common. Slightly less hilly that normal temperate biomes, but thicker. Papyrus and bamboo are common.
Overworld Jungle: found near temperate biomes
Characteristics: Thick with normal jungle trees. Jungle flowers are very common. Vines in open caves. Dark dirt. Jungle grass.
Swamp (maybe): found near temperate biomes
Characteristics: Mayan dirt! Grassy. Short trees are uncommon.

Biome transitions

Temperate ---> Desert: light colored dirt. Few normal trees. Bamboo, papyrus and palm trees are common. Light green desert grass occurs.
Temperate ---> Snowy: dark snow covered dirt. Few normal trees. Snowy bushes and flowers common.
Snowy ---> Desert: snowy sand. No cacti, palm trees or desert grass.

...there you go guys...

Very neat ideas! I'd love to have those biomes implemented in JJ2

When water/lava are added, they could add lots more Biomes.
Desolate Inferno's- Occassionally a Volcano could be generated on the surface. It would be steep, and very gray (new ash/magma blocks), and there'd be a pool of lava at the top. Maybe a block overspilling, too.
Pond- A little pool of water. Typically foun in Grassy and/or Forest biomes.
Lake- a large section (30-ish blocks wide, maybe 15-20 deep) of the surface filled with water. Maybe even a small island in the middle, made of sand and one palm tree. (Imagine spawning on the island :rotfl: .)
Underground caves with water- self-explanatory
Underground caves with lava- self-explanatory

I can't wait for water to be implemented :D nice biome ideas :approved: But then don't you think there would be too many biomes? After all the world isn't infinite and yeah...

How about a marshland biome. It would have plenty of shallow water pool in it but very very few trees if not none. Bamboo, papyrus, and tall grass would be very abundant here. Small and large rocks as well as flowers would be scarce here.

Haha thanks. :asd:

I was actually planning on posting a few more ideas, I might if I get around to it.

Oh look! Mayan dirt in the swamp biome! I loved that stuff. I have no idea why though. :asd:
