An Interesting Idea for dealing with new stuff

PostTue Jul 23, 2013 6:29 am

In JJ1, whenever new stuff is added, you often need to generate a new world to find it. I propose a new idea which will allow people to go through their old mines and find new stuff : "update chests". Basically there are a series of random chests created at world generation which drop themselves upon being broken with a silver hammer, we'll number them 1-5. When the first JJx update comes out, update chest 1 will no longer spawn and upon being broken, instead of dropping itself, will drop some of the new things in the update which cannot be obtained from already present chests or crafting materials. When the second update comes out, same thing, and so on and so forth.

Hmm.. Interesting idea.. but with the new worlds, World generation may change.

It's likely these unbreakable chests could get in the way of players; what do you think of having untouched dirt, stone, dark stone and blocks similar to that have ores, gems and the like spawned on them? This would only really work with ores, gems and minerals.

Or am I misunderstanding exactly how these chests would work?

@multi Not sure exactly what you mean there...
@alcron upon destruction of the chests, they drop new stuff in the update that you'd have top make a new world top find. Drop as in things go on the ground in item form like they do for any chest.
Thanks, Stuart98.

But you said they would be unbreakable until their update came.
I don't want anything unbreakable in my world screwing up my tunnels.

And remember in JJx you aren't limited to only 3 worlds, so you don't have to worry about which world to delete.

2. The world is big, 256 blocks high and 768 across.
3. Who is John Galt?

5. We scream, we shout, we wail, we cry; but in the end we all must die.

Say they changed the position of where something could spawn, that's what I mean, I'd rather have the new world generation then my old world's generation setting. Or to put it in another way - it's like how we can change the world generation in JJ by modifying the .json file.

Updated the post based on the above feedback.

@Multi that's unavoidable.

Maybe have this as an operation you can perform on your world? Looks like non-updating pre-update worlds are sort of preferred...
