So I would assume JJX will be the same.

I wouldn't say so. Rendering all the world would be unfeasible for any mobile device, the GPU wouldn't be able to handle so many sprites.

Don't mix rendering with where the logic of the world is stored (in memory, which nothing has to do with the actual graphics).

This image will clear things a little bit:

This is the game viewport scaled down by 50% on the same hardware surface. The red bounding box is roughly what you see in a iPod5 screen viewport, everything else resides outside and it is invisible. As you can see, just few blocks are rendered outside the viewport, and they magically switch row and column when the player is moving so that from an user point of view nothing can be noticed. Same thing applies to Junk Jack. :)

The block values are still in the memory, they are just not being drawn. This is actually the exact same way Explorium and DoM work! This is soooo cool. I finally know how the sprites are being drawn.

I wonder if they are being drawn every step... :mumble:

That's what I though. So, it is in fact, not like Minecraft's chunks.

The code for the entire world is always loaded, but only the graphics near you are rendered.

I use an iPad, so the amount of blocks I see would clearly be bigger.

Correct. I've grown spoiled by being able to see so far on iPad.

Why do you choose to use a tiny screen become one of the superior race with the ipad!

I like the small screen, but I think I want an iPad mini 2 for versatility.
