I went ahead and build this trap. But am I supposed to sit in it and wait or do I just have to be somewhere nearby? Because I don't really get any spawns. Not at day and not at night. Can passive mobs spawn at night?

Passive mobs spawn more in the day, and you'd need to be near it, mobs don't spawn on screan

The spawning pads are just out of the screen when I'm in the trap. Maybe add a few more layers of pads, I wonder of that will be effective. Maybe the rates will go up that way? And can mobs spawn on a block where I placed a torch?

I think so, mobs spawn only within 34? Or was it 35? Blocks of Jack, but not on screen, raising the Pads could help, but idk, i didn't and haven't made this

I think torches help improve the spawning of friendly mobs. :sisi:

friendly mobs only spawn offscreen in the presence of sunlight. If you have torches, passive mobs shouldn't spawn (in my "studies").

Yea my spawning pads have roofs on them and I'm getting no spawns so I'm going to tear it down again

did i ever send you a welcome message? If not, welcome!

To spawn peaceful mobs, it needs to be within about 3 blocks of sunlight for mobs to spawn. Also, peaceful mobs can jump up blocks, so funneling them in will be more complicated.

Also, they are not always going to spawn right where you want them. They can spawn ANYWHERE with sunlight. To the left, right, and down.

I build 2 spawning pads next to the original one and I'm getting some spawns! But I was wondering, can't we just make a giant funnel like fructose just like the hostile mob traps? 2 staircases next each other?

The only problem, as stated earlier, is that some passive mobs can jump up blocks. They can theoretically climb up the staircase making catching some of them quite tricky. It can be done, i just don't know how well
