Modding app

PostMon Jun 17, 2013 5:33 pm

Right now, installing texture packs and skins and such is a bit more of a hassle (and kinda unsafe because iOS 6 needs to be jailbroken to modify files) than it needs to be. Apps on the same device can transfer data amongst themselves if they are programmed to allow it, like how some lite versions of games allow you to directly transfer save files to the full version once installed. An easy way to improve the way we mod could be to come out with an app that can modify Junk Jack for you by downloading from a database of skins, textures, and all that stuff and transfer it over to the game directly.

I think kivifreak has been doing just this.
Somewhere in the Modding section you can find his topics.

:face palm:

That's for enabling hacked files...

I'm talking an official app that allows for easy, jailbreakless modification.

It would be great, but it wouldn't be able to modify the app, which is what is needed.
As well as that, nobody has ever created a complete Texture-Pack, due to their being so many textures. And don't point your finger at XsX to create them either.

How could it not be able to mod the game? You download a mod from a database to one app, transfer it to the other... Or are you implying you can't replace files like that?

You can't replace files like that.
Unless they implement a Texture-pack option (Kinda unlikely due to a lack of complete Texture-Packs), then this wouldn't be possible.

Apple Sets up an App like this:
Documents (Where all the stuff that the game saves so you don't lose progress. i.e. Your Worlds and inventory are stored in this folder)
"App name".app (Where all the code, icons and everything else that the game needs to run is stored in here)
Library (Where all the little random things are stored, Some apps if small enough store their saves in here. i.e. Junk Jack stores information of the iAP's you've purchased in here...)
tmp (I've yet to find an App that has stored anything in here, but I assume it's for when a app is using something that hasn't been saved)

To change textures, we use the "App Name".app folder, which cannot be modified by anything (Well, any apps on the App store, the Cydia store is a different matter though..)

So therefore, what you are suggesting requires either a cydia store tweak, or a Texture-Pack option, which, let's face it, if we had the Texture-Pack option, we wouldn't need the App.

It's easier grasp after you Jailbreak, then you can see how things are set up..

I am jail broken, and I understand the file structure fairly well. What I didn't understand was that only the documents folders for app could be modified by other apps.

:sisi: Technically the Library folder should be able to be modified as well.
Kivifreak is our only option as of right now :asd:

If they make it so that the textures are stored in the documents folder then you could change them with iTunes or ifunbox, even on non-jailbroken iOS 6

Lol I don't see why they haven't done that yet seeing as how they have an entire section on modding here at the forums :P
