However, these colors samples are taken directly from the photo. So the sample colors are probably just the shadows and lighting casted on the dress.

The problem with it is that you can actually see where the lighting is affecting the dress. It's made of a silky material, so the yellow in the light is reflecting off the black, BUT the light itself has a bluish tinge, so the blue is less affected.
When enhanced, you can see that the dress is indeed blue and black. The issue is the fact that whoever took the photo isn't just an amateur photographer, but a complete dingus when it comes to lighting and quality. Would you take a picture of a red blanket if your light was red? No, the blanket would look more white. Another problem is the background, it's misleading and stops you from seeing what it's supposed to look like properly. But if you remove the background..

Hey presto, blue and black, though admittedly, some places do appear gold, again though, that's due to the lighting.
