(Steam Version) Cannot plant seeds or sprouts

Hello! I'm new to the game, and have encountered a frustrating bug (?), or am missing some little thing...I can't plant any seeds or sprouts.

I found some wheat seeds, and promptly ran up to the surface and tilled a patch of dirt, activate the seeds so my character is holding them, and then left click the tilled plot- nothing happens. I tried clicking with both left and right mouse buttons, and when that didn't work, moved to un-tilled land and tried both buttons there. Nothing. I tried planting under ground just to be thorough, and it didn't work there either. I thought "maybe I'm missing something special I need for the wheat seeds, I'll try something else" and grabbed a few tree sprouts. Nothing. I tried tilled land, un-tilled land, right click, left click, above ground, and under ground. Then I tried all of that with a flower sprout. I can't plant any of them!

Needless to say I'm frustrated- I really want to mess around with the awesome farming system in this game, but for some reason I can't plant anything. I validated my game files through Steam, and tried a new save with a new character, and when that didn't help, tried a fresh install. Nothing fixed it.

Are you clicking the dirt block? You should be clicking the empty space above the tilled dirt. Should just be a normal click like you place blocks with.

That did it! Thank you! I feel a little silly now.

No problem. Every once in a while someone comes through who's determined to plant their seeds IN the dirt, not ON the dirt.
